In this section, I will showcase my poetry in themes, based on 'Words in ... ' as I see fit, perhaps seasonal, of events, of holiday destinations etc. I will leave them for reading for a time (basically until I remember to change them!) in the hope that visitors to my website will enjoy them, mention them to others, send me feedback, perhaps start a conversation that could lead ... well, who knows where. I am just keen to put my poetry out into the world and see who reads it.
See 'CONTACT ME' above for details of how to get in touch.
My first brief theme is 'Words in France'

Strictly speaking, not actually words in French, but in honour of the excellent Olympics 2024 in Paris, I am including two of my poems with a French theme: one the 'traditional' French cafe image I saw in Montmartre when visiting in 1997 for my 40th birthday; the second, a striking metal sculpture that overlooks the sea in Quiberon where I have been twice with Sally. Interestingly, well to me it is anyway, the first poem I wrote down fully was came to me while driving through northern France during a family holiday trip. France: you have a lot to answer for! That was in1999 or so, as I believe I have been writing poetry for around 25 years.

The seat is there to be occupied,
the hat— on a head should sit
if it fit
the circumstance,
only later to dance,
after waiting long to sit,
it is in the later hours the arrival,
when the long shadows have gone,
the corner seat there to sit and watch,
as the work of the cafe carries on,
the mood of the evening lift:
an arrival is that the night's parting gift!
Photograph not by the poet!
Swims the air it cannot breathe,
Though lives through imaginations realm,
the fins unmoved since to the airy ocean was released;
By art the copper panels weld
and rings and fins the size of sails,
anchored yet alive to swim in Port Maria
where the copper fish now hails.
