Norman Bates hates anything hiding
behind the shower curtain
like in the Shining
uncertain whether it’s friend or foe
who isn’t afeared of the Incy Wincy spider
climbing out the spout
I would be the first to scream
and in terror to leap about!
lightning flashes and thunder roars
suddenly the air calmed and stilled
it was then they saw a creature
climbing slowly up over the hill
huge— stands taller than the average man
a face of scars and subdued eyes
striking fear into the hearts of all who see
startled they run - escaping - terrified
there's a clown that might freeze your heart
coloured clothes might entertain for awhile
but there's another glint in the cross-point eyes
so don't be taken in by its face-paint evil smile
the puppet speaks without his ventriloquist
no dummy cos he has freedom to enjoy
his nose will grow when he says you’ll be alright
as he tries to make you into his toy
put out your garlic and crosses
there’s something walking down the lane in the mist
remember inviting in any stranger things
puts you in danger where vampires exist!
and witches aplenty will gather in their midst
afloat upon the air in hats as black as night
with their cats on brooms across the moon
such a magically terrifying sight
but if you’re wary when it’s scary
put up the barricades at home
a little magical protection in the rafters
because something wicked this way comes
of course, you know it’s Halloween
when the trick is to treat someone with a scare
so beware when you go out there into the streets alone
you might just be accompanied by your favourite worst nightmare
after Arctic Monkeys
