the party’s over for another four years
Argentine moss once more resisted the rolling stone
it was always going to be a Messi ending
and again football is not coming home
over time they achieved a united state
their course to greatness couldn’t have been harder
fallen short of a goal at the (semi) final hurdle
leaving three lions sat weeping in an Atlanta corner
celebrations began as the game ended
with a sign basically saying ‘Hands off our Malvinas’
while English hands held their sorry heads
politics and sport irrevocably mixed by Argentina
will English lions ever get a better chance
now more than sixty years since the World Cup final wall was breached
perhaps too defensive in the game and over the islands
a dogged hand needed to resolve this Anglo-Argentinian beef
