… a celebrated truth …
In sooth, I know why I am so sad
on the morning after the day before
when all that was on the mind
was to remind us of the loss
the grief that brought that group
of like-minds together
yet to remind too of what was gained
and what remains of the source
of much pleasure and not remorse
words and photographs are the stage
on which a celebration of life acts out
for his passing and for how now he has
his lasting wish holding hands
with his love in eternity
I took the line: “In sooth, I know not why I am so sad”, the opening words of Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare as the starting point for today's poem. A reflection on the day after Dad's funeral service.
The photograph is one taken by Dad on his early morning balloon ride in Cappadocia, January 2015
