Today's Poem Tuesday 14 July 2026
… on the occasion of an anniversary …
it’s not just any anniversary— it’s our anniversary
yours and mine and any anniversary
seems unnecessarily downgrading
because it’s not a number that has a specific gift
no gem stone or flower by association
we can make it a gift of whatever we like—
a Sorrento notebook and a bouquet of flowers
non-specific not to be repeated by others
as it won’t be picked up by AI or duplicated on Amazon
it’s our anniversary forty-two years in the making
ups and downs included like a South-west coast path walk
(though not like the Salt Path— just a metaphor)
or sideways as we find ourselves knocked off course
of course by life that runs its own as well as ours
but together we take it in our stride
because that is us: together with love
through sunshine and showers though our shower now needs
to be a little more accessible! as we arrive at hotels
now reaching that age that anniversary stage
when a little luxury doesn’t go amiss
as we continue our travels to places on our bucket list
who’da thought we’d have been to Argentina and Aruba
or Canada to see Finn and beluga
after the awe and wonder of Niagara Falls
such an amazing sight until sight of Iguazú— just as tall
more of it in luxury seeing vultures and toucans in natural flight
Uruguay and Tuscany after you finally retire
to take a new look to the coming year together
another to celebrate love life wherever
